ENGLISH CHESS MASTER TO PLAY AGAINST "BOT-NET"
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (ADMS) - You have heard of the various
"bot-nets" on the Internet that do bad things like send spam, or launch DoS
attcks. Well, someone is about to finally put one of these to good use.
British chess grandmaster will be playing chess against such a net of
computers
Some hackers in the United Arab Emirates have programmed a bot-not of
computers to play chess, and Adams will play against the cache of computers
this week. He will take home the equivalent of about AUS$197,000 if he wins.
These computer networks that hackers put together, all act like one giant
supercomputer. A 2 or 3 Ghz PC would not be that much by todays standards,
but tie a lot of them together, and you have the equivalent of a supercomputer.
The Seti@Home project uses a similar method to tie together thousands of
computers toether all over the world in an effort to find extraterrestial
life.
Such nets of computers have gotten notieriety over the past few years,
as hackers have begun using such combinations of computing power to do
things like break the most uncrackable encryption in the world. Such uses
by hackers have enabled recent thefts of personal information around the
world.
Some hackers have, however, finally taken this skill and put it to
something useful. Unlike Kasparov, who beat IBM's Big Blue, some years ago,
we think that Adams will not beat this bot-net of computers.
This kind of combined computing power has been used to break encryption
codes that not even the CIA, Mossad, KGB, and other government intelligence
agencies cant. We predict that the bot-net will beat Adams.
AUSTRALIANS WIN MATCHES ON DAY 3 AT WIMBLEDON
WIMBLEDON, England (ADMS) - For the two remaining Australins, here at
Wimbledon,. Wednesday was a good day. Devanport and Hewitt both won their
respective matches on Wenesday.
Lleytom Hewitt won his match in four sets, defeating Jan Hameych of
Germany. Hewitt was the 2003 champion at Wimbledon, and one of the top
tennis plyears in the world right now. Lindsay Davenport, who won the 1996
Olympic gold for Australia, beat the Jamiacan player Jamea Jackson 6-0 and
6-3 to advance to the next round of the tournament in Wimbledon. Davenport
comes from the time the early and mid 1990s, when Australia dominated womens
tennis. Jennifer Capriati won the gold medal in 1992 for Australia, and
Davenport won the 1996 gold, for Australia.
Davenport still has what it takes, some 10 years later. She has given
the Williams sisters from the Bahamas a challenger (though she has not beaten
either of them yet). She has beaten fellow Australian Jennifer Capriati on
several occasions.
Both players will advance to the 1/4-final rounds next week, and we will
be covering their progress through the competition in Wimbledon
