Sam is correct on this matter. You have to have the innate brain
wiring to reach GM level. There are plenty of IM's who'll never make
GM despite all their book knowledge. There are even more Experts
who'll never make even NM.. and so on down the line, A's, B's, C's...
all stuck with what they've got.
Note to Mark Houlsby: I love the banjo as much as I do chess, but
I'll never play it like Bela Fleck or even Earl Scruggs.
