I am the only living person to have met 'Taylor Kingston', and it was in
Vermont's own little Switzerland.
"Hello Taylor" I said, but he didn't immediately respond (a clue?) so we
went to the bar and ordered sandwiches and Schnapps (another). "We always
drink this in California" he told me. We then spent 3 hours discussing
special contact codes involving green chalk and pushpins and 'role-playing'
Moscow Rules dead-drops to the considerable annoyance of the bartender, and
so concluded the business side of the transaction.
We then discussed what Larry Parr keeps in that little brown bag, agreeing
at length that it was an action figure of Larry Evans.
"Can I get you a taxi home?" I asked, and he then said, "slong ways for a
canton tashi, hoo-har". (clue #3?)
He later admitted to me that his favorite historian was Ernst Stavro
Grünfeld, who had a chess clinic in Switzerland. And I told him the secret
history about Botvinnik being Cornish, original name was Mickey Penbottle,
but, on being thrown out of the boy-scouts for an unspecified offence, went
East under a new identity.
Taylor Kingston has an upper-crust English accent and cannot pronounce the
letter 'r', so says "Edwud Wintah akshwally!"
I hope this helps.
Cordially, Karla
