Author seating position?

As a newbie, just wondering if it is anywhere in the chess rules of
regulation that black must sit ACROSS from white? I read that someone in
1946 sat, playing black, next to white and said there was no law that said
he had to sit across from his opponent. Has any rule ever required opponents
to face each other?

Sorry about the name that I used, I set this up a while ago and used that
name as a test and forgot to change it.

That guy who did it in 1946?? Never saw him around again, did you??

It is called the "Don't be a MAJOR XXXXXXX" rule. In Chess, which attracts
lots of geeks, there are some lines that even the biggest turd will not
cross.
