This thread was started on March 21 and has generated
828 views and just 17 posts. The above was the only
message threatening cancellation. The contributions naturally
reveal a great deal of respect for Evans' chess
accomplishments, as on rgcp. (He is, after
all, the *sane* home-grown champion) But I don't think
anyone could honestly cite that thread as evidence
that Evans' column is important to the USCF.

For every rigid fanatic the USCF loses due to
modernization, it could gain *several* ordinary
chess lovers. This produces both a quantitative
and qualitative improvement in the membership.
