Maybe the "plan" is not to take down the whole newsgroup, but just
encourage people to quit reading posts by Sloan and Gordon. Hard to
tell.
BUT
It's hard for something like the USCF forums to compete on a level
playing field.
(1) They aren't real newsgroups. You can't access them with a real
newsreader. The User Interface is clunky and irritating. They're
much worse even than using Google as a newsreader.
(2) They aren't leavened with insights by international and other
non-member contributors.
(3) There's always the possibility that censorship or grudges will
suppress certain content on sensitive topics, or by certain posters,
EVEN IF THIS NEVER HAPPENS.
On the positive side, the spam and the nutballs, for the most part, go
away. But, if I really don't want to see Sloan's posts or Gordon's
posts, or someone else's posts, a few seconds setting a bozo filter
will take care of this.
