What a stupid thread.

Do you expect a guy to remember his peak rating, when it is nearly 40
years old? I am no longer sure of my own, and it's only 10 years old.

Do you expect a guy to be able to look up his peak rating, after nearly
40 years? Did you make a good-faith effort to look it up yourself?
(BTW I looked up some annual rating lists from the mid 1960's, and did
not find any exciting news about Sam.)

I think that RGCP already went over this ground, very recently, in a
discussion of Larry Parr's strength. It's all the more surprising that
we should be jumping down the same rat hole with Sam Sloan.

There are additional reasons why you should desist:

(1) He (allegedly) hung out in Mexico. Whatever he may have
accomplished there, would not have affected his U.S. rating.

(2) He recently beat you in a match. Badgering him about his strength
is something you should leave to other people, for quite a while. BTW
in my opinion, Sam's humorous gloating and trash-talking on RGCP since
the match has not gone beyond the bounds of good clean fun.

Lighten up. If some 60-year-old chess player gets to excessive
bragging about his past exploits, it's not exactly man bites dog.
