something bad so we can feast on the news for a week or two.

Well, perhaps you should tell everybody what's new with the Mensa
Model.

The point is that he has no details - they will be worked out after we
commit to it.

There is nothing new with the Mensa Model. It is still the best way
to organize an ideal chess federation.

http://www.ilchess.org/events1.htm ) will have their championships
Labor Day weekend.
There's still time to send in your entry fee; still time for a little
last-minute preparation.
Have fun next weekend!

| The Florida Open is one of the Labor Day state championships. This
year it is being held in Titusville or some place like that. Too far
away for me. Besides, I'd have to pay $49 USCF dues plus other costs.
Too expensive.
Now, if we had a fully funded Tampa Bay Metro District umbrella
pumping out tournaments, I might become active once again. But we
don't have such an organization. We don't even have a single
traditional promoter of adult chess.

It's boring because the election is over and our prime instigator, Sam
Sloan, is laying low to avoid my challenge.

Sorry to bust your complaining bubble Haasie, but you certainly will
not have to pay $49 USCF dues!!! You, my friend, can obtain a one year
membership for as little as $36, if you do it online. If you feel the
need to pay for it on the phone or whatever then you will pay a
whopping $2 more!!!
If you are indeed a member of MENSA then you should be intelligent
enough to realize that there indeed can be a successful organization
that is operated via a system other than your beloved MENSA model.
Maybe you should expand your conceptual horizons to include other
possible models of operation that would and could be successful.

Yes, we can and do have a non-Mensa type system for our chess
federation. That simply is not the ideal format. The Mensa model as
it would be adapted for chess would be the ideal form.
The way to really develop chess is to get a reasonable amount of
working capital into the basic markets for organized chess, which in
most cases is the metro scale. We'd want this done not only
proportionally but consistently year after year to build up the
production and promotion capacity at the basic market level. The only
practical way to do that is by way of a Mensa styled chess federation.

I was a member of Mensa for one year only. I got in on the basis of
my military GCT score which Mensa accepts in place of their own tests.
My GCT was 139, just barely enough to qualify. I don't know what is my
actual IQ score. I'd estimate it at only115 to 120, well below the
so-called "genius" level. I've never thought of myself as being
terribly bright. Mensa membership bored me so I'd did not renew. But
I recognized that its general format would be ideal for a chess
federation. A mensafied USCF would be a much, much better chess
federation than the one we've had all these years.

How about this one?:
After the failure of the attempted Palace Coup, two of the elected
board members failed to show up for one of the first meetings.
I bet Jerry Hanken a steak dinner that one of the newly elected board
members would drop out in less than one year. Looks like I am winning
that bet.

Tanner and Shahade were late for the meeting, but all six elected members
were present by 11AM. I think in both cases they slept in because they
were up late on Sunday due to the final round of the US Open.

But what about Tanner?
The minutes are posted at
http://www.uschess.org/org/govern/2...CFEBMinutes.pdf
The minutes state that Tanner and Shahade both arrived late for the
closed session on August 15, 2005. Tanner then left early, saying that
he could be reached by cell phone if necessary.
Later in the day the board held an Open Session. Tanner was absent.
Various motions were passed by 5-0 with Tanner absent.
I admit that I thought that Shahade might be an early drop out. I did
not think that Tanner would be a dropout on the very first full day of
meetings.
Since Tanner lives in Phoenix, it is not like he had to catch an early
flight home or anything.
However, since you eat a lot more than I do, you have the advantage of
money odds on this dinner bet.

| Being absent for a good deal of the meeting doesn't show very much
commitment on their part. Are they babies who need a full 10 hours of sleep?
An adult should be able to function for one day on a couple of hours of
rest.
When did the meeting start? Even 8 am, if they got to bed at 3 am (doubtful)
that's enough rest.
