A very good point, Vince. And despite the fact that Poitier was
acceptable in every way, including socio-economic status, various
people in the film opposed his marrying a white girl, including his own
father, who pointed out (correctly at the time) that in several states
their marriage would be illegal. So much for economic determinism.
While movies can't be considered very sound sociological evidence, this
one hardly supports Parr's thesis.
