KINGSTON KNOWS NUTHIN' ABOUT THESE MATTERS

One thing is for sure, if the Locofocos or the Know Nothing Party
ever make a comeback, we know who would be a prime candidate as party
leader.

I confess myself a tad mystified by Taylor Kingston demanding I
produce here proof that Edward Winter wrote a screed defending
Campomanes' stopping of the match, etc. Does he wish me to retype the
entire magilla and post it here? Is that his idea?

Or does he wish me to analyze Mr. Winter's advocacy and show how
he defends Campomanes? I am willing to do that if someone will send me
the 20-year-old materials.

For the record, Mr. Campomanes distributed Mr. Winter's writings
and also bought numerous subscriptions of Chess Notes from FIDE funds.
Those facts will have to suffice until a copy of the screed comes my
way. Mine is at home Stateside.

>Nor does [Taylor Kingston] have peep to say about his hero

quote:

>That is true, Larry. I have nothing to say about these matters,

because I know little or nothing about them.
quote:

>trying to destroy the livelihood of several chess journalists,

quote:

>I do not know whether Mr. Winter has ever tried to destroy anyone's

livelihod. Perhaps he has, perhaps not. Either way,
I don't know anything about it.

who are far stronger players than he is by repeatedly trying to get
them fired
quote:

>Again, I know of no such thing. All I can say is that I do not recall

Winter ever saying "So-and-so should be fired" in
anything I have read by him.

[Really? I recall him writing in KINGPIN that he doesn't know why Chess
Life retains GM Larry Evans.]
quote:

>Or about Mr. Winter lying that BCO was ghosted despite the fact that

GM Keene auctioned off the manuscript that was in Kasparov's own
handwriting.
quote:

>Again, I know nothing of this matter.

quote:

>Or about never receiving any money from FIDE which, in point of fact,

helped subsidize Chess Notes by sending it to all FIDE nations.
quote:

>Again, I know nothing of this matter.
