| A recent issue of Chess Life magazine declared that Svetozar Jovanovic
was the "Dean of American Scholastic Chess".
I had no objection to this but some others did, pointing out that
whilke Svetozar Jovanovic has long been the chess coach for the Dalton
School and has won many national championships, Sunil Weeramantry has
won more and was the coach for the new US Champion, Hikaru Nakamura.
Then, the March Chess Life declared on the cover that Arnold Denker is
the Dean of American Chess.
Again, no complaint. He certainly deserved it.
However, then the April Chess Life declared on the cover that Arthur
Bisguier is the Dean of American Chess
I have no real complaint, but what is going on here? Why have there
been three deans in three months? Who has been appointing all these
deans?
