Was it after the match that he has withdrawn from classical chess ? ;-)

Susan did not play "old chess" against Bobby. She played Fischer
Random Chess against Bobby.

Well, I find Fischer random chess really boring. I prefer classical chess.
BTW why so many people call this kind of shuffle chess as Fischer random
chess ? Shuffle chess has been known for at least 2 centuries now.

That's prob. because some people are so hung up on Fischer and everything
the man says and does, they repeat all his words without checking.
Fischer himself prob. thought he invented something fantastic.

My guess is that Fischer has popularized this kind of stuff (e.g. by
playing his match with Polgar ?), however it`s not his invention.

Fischer Random Chess is different from shuffle chess. In shuffle chess
the players alternate putting a piece on the board. In Fischer RandoM
Chess, the computers selects the position, subject to certain rules.
There are only 960 possible starting positions in Fischer Random Chess
as opposed to millions in shuffle chess. Fischer Random Chess goes
quicker and is a much better game than shuffle chess.

Your guess is wrong. Fischer invented Fischer Random Chess. That game
was never played by anybody prior to Fischer's invention of it.

Where did he publish the rules of his invention ?

Fischer's views seem to have evolved
somewhat since he made the knight-odds
remark in the early sixties. Here is what
Fischer said in 1992 when he was asked,
"Why, in your opinion, do women generally
not play chess as well as men?" Fischer
replied, "Well, it seems to be nature, but
perhaps with time they are improving and I
assume that they will continue to improve."
For comparison, in 1989, when Kasparov was
asked, "How about women chess players?",
he replied, "Well, in the past, I have said
that there is real chess and women's chess.
Some people don't like to hear this, but
chess does not fit women properly. It's a
fight, you know? A big fight. It's not
for women. Sorry. She's helpless if she
has men's opposition. I think this is very
simple logic. It's the logic of a fighter,
a professional fighter. Women are weaker
fighters. There is also the aspect of
creativity in chess. You have to create
new ideas. That's quite difficult, too.
Chess is the combination of sport, art and
science. In all these fields, you can see
men's superiority. Just compare the sexes
in literature, in music or in art. The
result is, you know, obvious. Probably
the answer is in the genes."

| It means that Fischer plays with one Knight instead of two, against the
given opponent.

This is a classical Freudian concept.
Damsels have two arms and two
legs for a total of four. And knights have five.
Fischer was ready to give away his inborn
Freudian advantage and to win anyway.
I hope that it helps,

that he could easily beat Deep Blue (the IBM Chess Computer)...

No. Of course not. I was in contact with Fischer and simply wrote down
his rules.

From Russian edition of "Russians vs. Fischer", p.35.
Koblents remembers: during Yugoslavia-1959 Mikhail Tal asked Fischer:
"Booby, how do you like the chess style of Larisa Volpert?". Bobby's
response: "She plays too carefully. But there is another lady,
Dmitrieva. I like her games!" Both Misha and me stand open-mouthed. We
obeserved thousands of games, but could not imagine studying female
ones. Where to find time for doing this? And Bobby did found!

Vlad
