I have and will discuss the issue of civility in general terms, but
will not discuss a specific person's behavior. If I were to do so, in
fairness I would need to comment on the *many* uncivil and
inappropriate acts of our USCF leadership. I don't see either the
necessity or value of doing so.
Incivility tends to draw out the worst in us and consumes so much time
which could be better spent elsewhere. I have already stated multiple
times that if elected I will not tolerate uncivil behavior from our
leadership, and will appropriately confront those who in my estimation
have crossed the line, and will take all reasonable and necessary steps
to stop it should it continue to occur.
To better facilitate improved civility, I have called for a written
code of ethics for our committee members with the goal of helping them
better understand what is expected of them. Furthermore, such a code
should make the administration of accountability more fair.
The overall goal is to make volunteer work for the USCF as positive an
experience as is possible so that we may attract more and better
qualified volunteers. Another goal is to protect and improve the
overall reputation of the USCF and its governance structure. IMO, a
respectful, positive, and cooperative climate is essential.
