Gerald Dullea replaces Glenn Petersen as Chess Life Editor

It has been reported by several sources that with Glenn Petersen in
intensive care recovering from a serious heart attack, Gerald Dullea
has been appointed to replace him on an interim basis.

I am concerned about this development. I have only met Gerald Dullea
once. That was at the 2001 USCF Delegate's meeting in Framingham. I
know little about him and have nothing either for or against him.
However, I do know that he is extremely controversial and I doubt that
he is a suitable choice.

Every time the name of Dullea comes up, strong objections are heard.
Previously, he was USCF Executive Director twice and was fired both
times. The last time was in 2000. He was given a consulting contract
as a going-away present. Dullea then filed a lawsuit against the USCF.
The case went to trial and Dullea won, but the judge only awarded him
$900 in damages.

I am surprised that a person who previously filed a lawsuit against
the USCF would be hired again. It is also surprising that this time he
was hired as Chess Life Editor whereas previously he was Executive
Director.

Could not they have found somebody less doubtful?

It is glaringly obvious that the USCF is run by a bunch of scumbags who are
looking for others who will help them bleed it dry. The USCF is not looking
for any major talent or positive influence.

Love at first post.

But I think they are mostly looking for people to conform to their vision of
things, which is to hunker down, produce the magazine and the rating list,
keep the majority of members [the kiddies] in the fold before someone else
grabs 'em, and so on. I think this is alright - but it has nothing to do
with why they are established as a non-profit organisation for the promotion
of chess in the USA, and could be run as well - certainly as well - by a
business of half its size and overhead.

The real action is elsewhere at the moment, and you won't read it here
because no one is interested in the mission statement of developing chess
potential on this continent, and all the real movers and shakers went away,
then found each other again by private networked communications.

We are a secret club not by conscious choice, but because we seemed to be
the only people who wanted to get after reasserting the complete domination
of chess in the world as was seen in the 1930's [USA owned it] , and which
after an absense in the 40's returned not quite so strong in the 50's and
60's, to then expire at the behest of USCF.

We are the true evil axis who do not aspire to more mediocrity, but are
willing to stir everything up and wake the Sleeping Giant.

Dullea is a safety net. He is the type of Ph.D., former academic type,
who wanders from job to job, consultancy to part-time teaching job.

If you were the conspiracy theorist type, you could say that USCF
picked someone with adequate skills for the job as they were waiting
for another to fill, or if they truly care about Glenn getting well,
for Glen to fill the job. In the second case, I would think this was a
good move by USCF.

Probably the best thing to do for you Sam, would be to fill your
conspiracy theorist head with the "fact" that Tim Hanke has the job of
USCF editor when he fulfills his obligation of being away from the
Board long enough, and Gerry is just a fill-in, probably with a safe
contract tucked in his vest.

Have you ever considered that you serve as more valuable job to the old
guard, old boy/old girl system by being such a convenient nut job to
feed "facts" (true and false, depending on what the machine wants) to?
Sort of like a Cypher from the first Matrix movie?

P.S.

Don Schultz as Agent Smith
Rest of cast to be filled in by otherwise bored rgcpers who are sadly
missing in action....

All are allowed to play except for Phil, especially given his moniker
as Chess One. Too spooky, and I don't want to have to correct his list.
