I've only been a Board member since August, so it's probably a little early
to make a judgement. On a personal level, I think one mistake the Board has
made is to not have any formal orientation process for new Board members.
Perhaps the fact that Elizabeth and I joined the Board after a special
election and at the annual meeting complicated the situation, but I think
the USCF should provide some method for bringing new Board members up to
speed on key issues, the committee structure, the office staff and
responsibilities, relationship with the executive director, etc. In Iowa
state government, we have a two day orientation for new legislators, and I
think we need something similar for new Board members.
