I have read a few books and as usual with history there are conflicting
views.Goering swiftly fell from high favour with Hitler as Himmler and
Bormann gained political ascendency according to some sources.
Added to which Hitler was obsessed with developments at Peenemunde
which he viewed as weapons that would win the war for Germany. I agree
that Britain was underestimated however. I have always maintained it is
highly dangerous to underestimate an enemy as indeed Hitler and his
regime learned to their detriment.
As I understand it the Fuhrer steadily grew erractic, he constantly
changed his plans and caused severe problems for his generals and
advisors.
Also much manpower was wasted with the running of the concentration
camps and the holocaust.furthermore as you know, fighting on two fronts
is also inadvisable.
