News that applies to what is happening to the chess world.

FEBRUARY 14, 2005

BIG NEWS!!-WHOLESALE LIQUIDATION!! 500 ITEMS!!
I've finally made a decision I have put off for quite awhile. This is
to liquidate all the books in our warehouse, about 100,000 of them.
They are TPI titles, McKay, s1Editrice, Masterpiece Development,
Schmidt Schach, Muenster, Chess Enterprises, Cardoza, and some others
(over 500 DIFFERENT in all!!!). There's no point in further fooling
myself. A pricelist is being put together right now. If you send Nate
your email address and request a PDF, we will send you one
(nate@chessco.com). Or, since he will be gone Wed-Thur-Friday this
week, you can send me your request at blong@chessco.com.
I've been publishing and wholesaling since 1973 and the support by a
number of needed agencies is just no longer there. There's no sense in
crying about it because it is clear few others care. However, there is
our Vanity Press business which has just started up and for which we
will be publishing quality books for the authors. One to come out in a
short while will be Bob Basalla's "Chess at the Movies." I have looked
over this monster manuscript and it is deliciously good. We hope to
have Alex Angos' "You Move...I Win!" done in March-we are fixing up
issues right now. The idea behind Vanity publishing is to get the
authors to pay for the publishing of the book. This way we can do
smaller quantities, they get out there what they would like the chess
world to see, and for a fee, we will promote and publicize their book.
Several other books besides what I have mentioned are in the offing
also.
The plan, ultimately, will be to sell off:
Chessco (retail)
SQUARES (magazine)
The Chess Festival (how to organize such an event, and who to contact,
etc.)
Our chess on stamps inventory
Our Used Books
Our Chessco website (the engineering is already done, all you have to
do is pay for a few changes and put in your product mix. I can show you
how. And it is customized toward chess.
Our 800 number (known worldwide)

I think Hanon has it already. Or at least his attorney does.
