Author FIDE website down?
Mike Nolan

I've been unable to access the FIDE website today from two different
ISP's.

Are others having this problem?

Yes, and I suspect that Larry Parr made it go down. :-)

Yeah, I kept meaning to check that.

They're lucky it hasn't been hijacked already. Four letter .com domain
names are worth a lot of money these days.

Yes, I have been unable to access it as well. A day or so ago I believe Barb
Vandermark was able to access it.

According to a whois search, It appears they let their domain name registration
expire on September 3.

While they are still in the grace period for renewing the domain name, it can
take a week to be back online once the appropriate fees are paid.

My ishius.com domain name was hijacked in July, 2001 only three days
after I forgot to renew it. I have never been able to get it back. The
hijacker offered to sell it back to me for $35,000.

The hijacker threatened to get the Oakland Hells Angles after me if I
did not stop complaining to the higher authorities about this.

At that time, my mailing address was in Berkeley (Mike Goodall's
house) so he probably thought I would be fearful of the Oakland Hells
Angles.

The hijacker has changed registrants three times since, perhaps
because I keep complaining to the registrars that he hijacked my
domain name. He used eNom.com first. Now he is using Moniker Online
Services.

The name of the hijacker is:

Chad Wright (cvmerchants@yahoo.com)
209-529-6607
FAX: 209-529-6607
PO Box 577583
Modesto, CA 95355
US

Ishius.com was the name of my company, Ishi (US) originally of San
Jose, California, a subsidiary of Ishi Press of Japan. We had had the
ushius.com domain name since 1994.

My understanding is that it would take over two months before someone could
"hijack" the domain name. There is a 30 day grace period and then another 30-40
day period where the domain is onhold for the original owner. Apparently the
registration fees go up during this second 30 day period.

Another whois search shows that the registration was renewed sometime today.

Hi This is Chad...this guy Sam Sloan is a certified nutcase.

I didnt hijack his domain. To hijack a domain is to steal it...as he
said below he FORGOT to renew it. If you dont pay your rent someone
else will move in.

His registrar notified him several times about renewing his domain but
for whatever reason he didnt...so now hes pist at the world or at least
me right now.

He immediately emailed me after seeing I owned it...and threatened me
about lawsuits and the such for "hijacking" his domain...that he
abandoned for lack of payment.

I told him Im keeping it..he then threatened to come to my home and
kill me. He also said he lived in Berkeley and knew many biker gangs
there and he's the one who threatened with the Hells Angels...not me.

If he would have contacted me like a decent guy I would have probably
gave him the domain for free.

I never offered to sell him the domain but I did tell him since he made
death threats he will never own this domain again...and he wont.

He was also reported to my local police department for his continuous
death threats.

Sam Sloan go away you pyscho.

To moniker.com

This is to inform you that ishius.com that was recently registered
with your Domain Name Registratiion Service is my domain name and was
stolen from me in June, 2001 by one Chad Wright, who stole my name by
pretending to be me.

I am the President of Ishi Press. ishius.com was established as the
Domain Name for our San Jose, California Branch Office. After I closed
that office, I registered ishius.com under my own name.

At the time that Chad Wright stole my name, my website at ishius.com
was receiving 8,000 hits per day, which explains why Chad Wright would
want to steal my name.

Since then, Chad Wright has changed registrars several times as I have
complained to each of them about the theft of my name. Chad Wright has
offered to sell me my name back for $35,000 and he has threatened to
get the Oakland California Hells Angels after me if I do not stop
complaining about his theft of my name. I no longer live in Oakland.

I demand the return of my domain name of ishius.com

I am willing to submit this matter to arbitration by any competent
authority.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

If you will go to http://www.deja.com/rec.games.chess.politics
and do a GoogleGroups search under rec.games.chess.politics for "One
of my domain names has been stolen" for the period August 3, 2001 to
August 7, 2001, you will see exactly what happened, as more than 70
articles were posted on this issue in those four days.

What happened was that I was three days late in renewing my domain
name registration. Mr. Chad Wright hijacked my name by registering it.
He did not register it through Network Solutions where I had
registered it. Instead he registered it through a no-name service,
mydomain.com. I discovered this only three days later and complained.

He then offered to sell me the name back, first for $50, then for $300
and later he raised the price to $35,000.

He then threatened to send the Oakland Hell's Angles after me. At that
time, my residence address was Berkeley California, so this was a
serious threat.

Im an ex Hells Angel for the Oakland Hills Chapter.

Are you sure you want to make those kind of threats?
If yes, then I will let my boys know.

Chad

After that and after I had complined to mydomain.com, he shifted the
registration to enom.com and then he called himself Sam "The Molester"
Sloan.

This is why I wrote that he was pretending to be me, as he was using
the name: Sam "The Molester" Sloan.

Since then, every year, he has shifted the registration to a new
registration service. I was hoping that this year he would drop it,
but obviously he did not.

Ishi Press is a well established and well known book publishing
company. We have published more than 100 books, mostly about the game
of go. We are incorporated in three jurisdictions: California,
Delaware and Tokyo Japan. Our main domain name is ishipress.com .
Obviously, ishius.com is the name of our USA branch. You can go into
any book store and they will have heard of Ishi Press.

I believe that there are laws against hijacking a well established
corporate name. Accordingly, I demand that the name be returned to
me.

Very Truly Yours,

Sam Sloan, President

Mr. Sloan (Nutcase from the Bay)

You have no case. You stated above in your own words "My ishius.com domain name was hijacked in July, 2001 only three days after I forgot to renew it."

How can someone hijack it if you forgot to renew it? Read the ICANN rules and the rules at your registrar to learn how things work. Pay your bills!

Like you said above, I offered the domain to you for $50 which at that time was my cost to pick up an expired domain. You should have took it but instead wanted it for free as if I owed you something. You wanted me to pay for your mistake to renew your domain name.

Your threats are old, you are old, everyone knows your an idiot by now so get over it. Making false accusations to make your case sound stronger isn't going to work either.

In the meantime, I see you have a couple of other domains I like so make sure to pay your bills this time or they may end up in my possession again.
