Sometimes "remaining silent" is the right thing to do. Some useless
threads in this newsgroup would be cut off a lot sooner, if some
contributors appreciated the correctness of "remaining silent."
BTW, I too have been referred to using titles I do not have (and never
had). Twice "IM" has appeared next to my name in Chess Life. I
considered sending them a correction, but what kind of self-absorbed
nit-picker would do that? So I didn't. If that sort of thing happens
to Kevin, c'est la vie.
Your choice of words ("lovely gesture") is not what I would have used,
but it will do. He did the right thing. And now you're punishing him
for it. This is annoying. If you want people to do the right thing,
you should at least not punish them for it.
