That alleged 'implication' would be 'clear' only to someone as nearly
illiterate (or deeply dishonest) as Greg Kennedy ('NoMoreChess').
1) I knew that Gore Vidal has written some non-fiction,
such as "United States: Essays: 1952-1992".
2) 'The Golden Age' (which Larry Parr cited) is a *novel*.
3) Gore Vidal is known as a writer of fiction, *not* as a historian.

H.P. Willmott, a British military historian, was a senior lecturer at the
Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, England. He had no personal acquaintance
with US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

As far as I know, H.P. Willmott has not yet 'solved' chess.
