>The book I have is a hard-bound edition in English with the title "Lasker's
How to Play Chess" printed on the cover and also printed inside with the
additional subheading of "An Elementary Text Book for Beginners, which teaches
Chess by a new, easy and comprehensive method by Emanuel Lasker With
Introduction by W.H. Watts." Inside it indicates that the book was published by
the Bell Publishing Company, located in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. However, on
the inside cover it shows that the book was published by Crown Publishers Inc.,
whose address is given as 419 Fourth Avenue, New York City 16. The printed
price of the book on the inside cover is $1.00
The book consists of 107 pages. The page size is 4.75" x 7"
Besides the introduction by Watts - William Henry Watts (1878-1941), I presume
- there are 12 chapters and an unnumbered chapter titled "The Chess World,"
whose opening paragraph reads as follows:
"Any chess player who ceases to play the game merely for his private amusement,
but desires to probe the mysteries of chess as it progresses and to enjoy the
art of the great masters, thereby ipso facto becomes a denizen of the chess
world."
It concludes with the following sentence in the final paragraph: "The future
therefore belongs to the creative master and to an organization which works in
unison with him."
I have no idea whether this book is a translation of something which appeared
in German earlier by Lasker. There is no date of publication
