Today I tried to reserve a room for the Liberty Bell Open. The hotel told me
it was canceled. Yet when I went to CCA's website, they are still soliciting
entry fees. It was reported in the Philadelphia papers that as of February
1st the Hotel will be sold to Target. Yet, Chess Life and CCA's website are
still promoting the World Open to be held there over July 4th.
I called around and learned some interesting things. A usually reliable
source alleged that Bill, in his position as USCF ED managed to keep the ad
in Chess Life. Apparently, he and his silent partners intend to collect as
much as they can and then give themselves a golden parachute severance pay.
After which CCA will file for bankruptcy.
I asked who the silent partners were and the answer will surprise you. None
other than Sam Sloan is alleged to own 51% of the association. It seems
years ago when Bill was starting out he had some financial difficulties. He
went to Sam, a successful securities broker back then, and sold the interest
to him.
After talking some more I learned that millionaires, Leroy Dubeck, Steve
Doyle, and Jim Eade plan to hold a tournament in Philadelphia over July 4th.
It will be called the Biggest Open Ever and have a prize fund of $500,000.
If true this means that the USCF will be stuck for the entry fees collected.
It is known that CCA has had some financial reverse lately. The HBFoundation
has usurped their Memorial Day Tournament by holding one the week before
with a substantially larger prize fund. Bill had to take a job with the USCF
this year to make ends meet. It has been reported that his promised
compensation of $60,000 was reduced to $25,000 due to incompetence. It is
alleged that he screwed up the ICC contract, talked the board into a
contract with Chesscafe that is way behind in their promised payments, and
purposely did not notify the board of a lawsuit filed by Dick Petersen.
I intend to publish the details in my upcoming E-Book, The Poor Children of
Sam Sloan.

Stan,
There is a traditional proverb that says fight fire with fire. Charles Colton
also said imitation is the sincerest flattery. This is equally deplorable as
those you parody. There were, however, no dirty words which I guess makes it
acceptable to some. Let's hope all parties learn and stop this type of
reporting.

Keep in mind that it is alleged to be true. Why hasn't CCA at least changed
their web site? How does the jobless Sam Sloan feed his family and support
his children without regular payments form CCA?

Wait just a darned minute! My sources have it that as soon as Chess HQ
moves into Crossville an investor group will develop the ChessyWood amusement
park which will have chess horsie rides, waterslides using hulled out bishop
pieces, etc.
ChessyWood will also include Mount Muchmore where the likenesses of the
chess politicians who have stolen the most money will be etched in granite.
