I agree with the view above. Editing is not the same as journalism, but if
you can do one it qualifies you to the other, and TH has been immersed in a
broad variety of chess topics by virtue of his current office - and these
are valuable perspectives in an editor.

Yes, at least 12 months seems decent. 18-24 months are preferable.

And will make the result more cute than compelling. One additional point is
that even if TH and BM were the only outstanding candidates for the posts,
once they occupy them we would wish to see them empowered, no? Not hamstrung
or watered down, [can't decide on my metaphor].
