OT: Football Again

| To Richard Peterson:
I read with interest your threads last year concerning collegiate football. Without taking a stand either way, I congratulate your
choice of National champion.
Now then...
Are you interested in making a small wager as to whether USC will win this year's BCS championship? I won't make it one-sided, so
I'll pick a team as well. It will probably be Auburn or Oklahoma. Oh, what the heck, I'll take Oklahoma.
Now then ...
Are you ready to wager? I suggest $27000.00. You game?

Actually no. I am not a gambler.
I won't make it one-sided, so

First, I don't have $27K I could afford to lose. If this is a not very clever
reference to the 26K returned for the benefit of the kids who gave it, sorry,
that money is not even in my name and I could not access it if I wanted to.
The other problem would be, what would you do if USC wins???
I was thinking USC is not as good as last year as their entire receiving core
is gone, but the receivers are developing quickly and they have a tight end who
may well end up all-pro. Remember the name Dominique Byrd. He is 6'6", 260,
and fast. He just came back from a broken kneecap and is also a basketball
player. He was a human highlight film in the Oregon State game.
The USC offensive line was entirely replaced from last year and they may well
be better than last year's great unit.
Then there is Reggie Bush, the world's fastest human in football pads.
Oklahoma, on the other hand, has not played anybody of note.
Sorry, but Texas has a one dimensional offense. Texas A and M lost to Utah and
Baylor, but nearly beat Oklahoma.
This makes me think Oklahoma might not be as good as last year where they
soared over a conference of turkeys although my cousin Adrian is a pretty fair
country player, but would I take Adrian Peterson over Bush. I don't think so.
Would you take Jason White over Matt Leinart?
Let's put it this way, White will not be drafted in the first two rounds.
White was the Heisman trophy winner BEFORE the Kansas State and LSU games last
year. Those games will keep him from consideration this year.
Oklahoma's defense over USCs? Not likely.
Try this one.
Who is the best QB TB combination in the country?
Not White/Peterson nor Leinart/Bush/Lendale White.
Try Aaron Rogers and JJ Arrington who are more talented than anyone else I have
seen.
I suspect Rogers will be the first QB in this year's draft and Arrington is
averaging over 7 yards a carry.
In fact, with their receivers healthy, California is the second best team in
the country and would eat Oklahoma's lunch by 3 tds.
You might remember that Rogers completed his first 23 passes against USC and
they still lost, barely.
Oklahoma just doesn't see QBs like those in the PAC10.
By comparison, Oklahoma sees a bunch of running quarterbacks who pass in slow
motion (like Jason White) and are picked off with great frequency against the
fast teams like USC, and the Florida teams. Just check out the decades of the
80s and 90s in the Orange Bowl.
There is no way Oklahoma could keep a healthy USC under 40.
