Youth is now $23. Is there a two dollar affiliate commission making price $21
if I snail mail in?

Scholastic is now $17. Is there a two dollar affiliate commission making price
$15 if I snail mail in?

To be accurate:

The base price for a youth membership is still $25. There is a $2 affiliate
commission and a $2 online discount. This means that an affiliate that
sends in the membership through the TD/Affiliate Support Area can pay just
$21 and either keep up to $4 or pass some or all of the savings back to
the member.

The $2 online discount is also available through the USCF web store, so
a youth member who joins or renews through the Join/Renew tab on the USCF
website can pay $23 if paying by credit card.

However, the affiliate commission is only available if the membership
is submitted through a USCF affiliate.

Similarly, the full scholastic membership is $19 with a $2 affiliate commission
and a $2 online discount, so the affiliate need only remit $15 if submitting
the membership through the TD/Affiliate Support Area.

Affiliate commissions can be taken for memberships mailed in by an affiliate,
but the online discount is ONLY available if the membership is entered
through the USCF web store by the member or through the TD/Affiliate
Support Area by an affiliate.

The current webstore does not have the ability to itemize the online
discount as a separate line item. The new webstore will make it clear
that the $2 is a discount for online submission and not a reduction in
the base price of dues.

The monthly processing statistics for October were interesting:

There were 2048 memberships processed in October that were received
through the mail, 602 by phone, 398 through the TD/Affiliate Support
Area and 1635 through the USCF web store. (Another 59 were received
from other sources.)

I need to sign up new members - is there a new membership form, yet?

Or, is it still in beta-test?

Well, some people think Microsoft Windows is still in beta-test.

The membership module of the Tournament Director/Affiliate Support Area
has been working fairly well since August, and handled nearly 400
memberships last month.

The first batch of tournaments submitted through the beta test of the
ratings upload module were rated last night with no problems reported.

Another batch will be tested in Friday evening's rate. Assuming there
are no surprises, I plan to release the ratings upload module for
public use over the weekend.

The only significant restrictions at this time are that it can only handle
events with no more than 10 rounds, and it requires USCF IDs and current
USCF memberships for all players. We're working on dealing with the
exceptions to the USCF membership requirement (Rule 23C) and should have
a way of handling most of the exceptions by Friday.

I didn't ask for online membership processing - I asked for membership
*forms*. You know, ink splattered on dead trees.

Otherwise known as "appropriate technology".

Yesterday, I got a mailing from Bill Goichberg, addressed to all
Affiliates. It was very detailed. Preparation of this letter probably
took as long as it would have taken to prepare new membership forms.

The envelope did not contain any membership forms.

How much postage was wasted on this useless letter?

You are absolutely correct. I *don't* really need to sign up any new
members. Thanks for setting me straight.

Oh, how quaint!

PDFs of the new membership forms have been available online since Oct 28th.
