can someone tell me if there is a client for playing xianqi against an
AI/online for the macos platform? I am looking for a computer to play
against so that I can accoustom myself to the symbols and movements of
each peice, before i sit down and play with someone, and end up
embarassing myself more than i must.

thanks in advance.

Hi David,

Can't help you with MAC software, but I can recommend the games website
www.itsyourturn.com where you can learn the rules and familiarise yourself
with the pieces for free. They have a few hundred people playing Xiangqi so
you'll find players of all standards. Note also that there are a number of
strong Xiangqi players in Canada and buying a set from your local Chinatown
will only set you back a few dollars. You can also buy books over the
internet. To date English translations are still lacking in quality, but
things are improving all the time.

Good luck! Perhaps we'll meet on itsyourrturn. My username is my first name.
