Checkmate - the lost opportunities! The WXC 9th episode
|
|
| phamhongnguyen@hotmail.com 2005-08-24, 12:31 am |
| When checking games of The Xiangqi World Championships 9th I found that
as usual some players missed checkmates. Some have affected badly their
scores.
I post those games here for knowledge and for fun.

| Hi Pham,
thanks for putting all those WXC games online (this goes to Felix Tan
and Peter Sung as well for entering resp. distributing the game
scores).
quote:
> 34. C4.5 C5.4
> Instead of losing, White should win this game and save near 2/3 of time
> by mating in 2 here: H3+4 K5.6 C5.4
I checked out the position you've mentioned. It's hard to believe that
both players missed such a basic mating motif. In order to retrieve the
honour of the players I would like to assume that Blacks 34th move
should rather read C5.6 instead of C5.4. This would cover the mate and
the subsequent moves would make sense as well. 35.E3-1 attacks the
cannon, 35...H2+4 protects it, 36.C5-2 blocks the horse and thus again
attacks the cannon, and with 36...C6.5 (instead of C4.5) we're back in
the game.
Regards, Andreas

| You are right. The move C5.6 is totally logical and must be. I
corrected the source. I will re-release database with correctness soon.
Perhaps, after checking the other mates

wait for your checking.
