I am using the Asian Xiangqi Federation web site
http://www.asianxiangqi.org to bring you news of the 9th
World Xiangqi Championships now being held in Paris.
So far 5 rounds have completed. The results of the first
four rounds have been posted at the AXF site.
I have also posted some 35 photographs taken in the past
two days via photosite.com

The greatest news is that the 4-time world champion Lv Qin
of PR China suffered his first lost game in this series.
He lose to Lei Kam Fun of Macau in Round 3.

France has a third player Kong Wong to make the total number
of contestants in the men's division even (70). He shocked
the xiangqi fans by defeating Chiu YuKuen the number one player
from Hong Kong.

In the women's division, China's Guo Liping drew with Taipei's
Gao Yiping. They continued to lead in the next three rounds.
Worth mentioning is that there are 14 contestants in this
Championships. Further more, four of them are natives of Europeen
countries (France,Italy,Germany and Finland), that's a two-fold
new record in the history of WXC.

I am trying my best to find more free time here so that I can
convert some of the interesting game records into Java applets
and post them to the AXF site.

Sir,
Although I've asked the officials here at Chinagora in Paris for copies
of the game scores for the French-speaking xiangqi web site (at
www.lexiangqi.com) I wasn't able to get a copy of the previous rounds.
I know that Pascal TANG whom I met there yesterday, the developer of
the award winning program XieXie (http://www.cc-xiexie.com/home.php),
would also be interested in a copy of the game score to enrich his
program's database.
Would you be willing to share the scores if you had better luck in
accessing them.
Regards,
Jean-Marie Chauvet

you can view online.

After round 7, leading with 6 points in the Men's Division are:

Some 35 photographs taken on the first two days of the Championships
are also available for viewing, thanks to the service of Photosite.com.

Me too has some difficulties in getting the in the format and at
the time I need them. However, I should be able to get a soft copy of
all the game records (in text format) from the organizer at the end of
the day. I will put it on the website for downloading.

I tried to post this yesterday but it seems that my posting got lost.
A German Xiangqi friend is trying to put a complete table of
the World Cup on his page

http://www.isewase.de/xq/wxc9.htm

However, he is taking the individual results from the webpage of
the Asian Xiangqi Federation (Felix Tan). Therefore, he can"t be
faster than Felix LOL

Hello Felix:

Great coverage and photos. Thank you very much.

I do have a question. Where can the Xiangqi Set they are using in your
photos at
http://www.felixtan.photosite.com/Paris2005/ be purchased?

Thanks again for the dedication and hard work you are putting into this
project.
