| After the 2nd World Xiangqi Championship, September 1991, the 'Baoren
Cup' Thematic Opening Tournament was immediately held in Kunming,
sponsored to the tune of 80,000 yuan by Mr. Liu Baoren, a retired
doctor living in Taiwan who loves his pet opening. Here is a game
between GM Hu Ronghua and GM Li Laiqun, a short sharp shock battle on
the theme of Same Direction Cannons Opening :

This was indeed an exciting match. Although it was played in an early
round, it actually determined the championship. Hu, with 6 wins and a
draw, won the championship. Li was the runner-up. This game is
annotated in my Xiangqi Syllabus on Cannon - Chinese Chess 2 as Game 9,
at pp. 61-69.
