For fun and friendship, we understand that UK is sending a team of 7
people to the Paris's World Championships, namely lady player Wu
Caifang, European players Peter Wood, Rudolf Reinders and Alain Dekker,
Team/Invididual players Chen Fazuo and La Khan-Hoa. C.K. Lai is the
team leader.

C. K. Lai, in addition to being the European Xiangqi Champion in 1994,
has spent considerable time in promoting Xiangqi in UK and developing
new talents to compete in the international arena. In the above list,
Peter Wood, Rudolf Reinders, and Chen Fazuo have participated in earlier
WXCs. If my memory serves me, Peter was a prize-winner at the 8th WXC
in Hong Kong in 2003; in my "Xiangqi Syllabus on Pawn - Chinese Chess 4"
(2002, at pp 240-248), I annotated a game between Rudolf and Peter at
the 7th WXC in Macau in 2001, where Peter won with a countercheck that
resulted in a checkmate (a rare occurrence in international play).
