| Does anyone have BGN's homepage or its home office address in UK? I
annotated two games from the BGN Challenge in my recently published
book, Xiangqi Syllabus on Horse - Chinese Chess 5, and would like to get
in touch with BGN, the Challenge's sponsor. Thanks. David Li

The firm has financially collapsed, and appears to have been a vehicle for
fraud.

| Daniel, Thanks for your quick response. Reading the link you provided, it is
a sad story, at least for Xiangqi. The "fraud" cases cited in the link, each
at UKP250,000 or less, are, in the world finance arena, relatively
insignificant. (I must admit that my reference point is the World Bank Group,
with which I served for a while as a staff member and, later, after
retirement, as a consultant.)
Early on, BGN signed a 5-year contract with the World Xiangqi Federation to
promote Xiangqi, sponsoring an annual competition, first over the internet,
then with the final 32 contestants in a face-to-face contest. The prize money
for each year is USD500,000 (or a total of USD2.5 million over the 5-year
period). Each year's champion gets USD100,000 plus a cannon-shaped trophy
valued at USD15,000. The champion in the inaugural year, 2001, is Xu
Yin-chuan; a beautiful game he played in a chaRiot-Pawn v Horse-Pawn ending is
annotated in my recently published book, Xiangqi Syllabus on Horse - Chinese
Chess 5. The book also annotates a chaRiot-Pawn v Horse endgame, played by Hu
Rong-hua at the 2nd BGN Challenge in 2002. With BGN in bankruptcy,
presumably, this Challenge is inactive. Too bad.
Daniel, thanks for the quick response. If you care to let me know your e-mail
address, perhaps we may discuss other Xiangqi issues of mutual interest as
well. Thanks again.
