In late 1999, two games were played between Lu Qin and "the World." In
game 2, the following position was reached after 24 ... H6+5xE:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
e k a
a
c h r e
p R p p
P R
H C
P P P
C H h
A r
K A E c
9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1

Red's response was 25 C9=5xH. It seems to me that a simpler move might
be 25 R2-5xC. Since "the World" was composed of players from Finland
and Canada who are active on the internet, I am wondering if they might
shed light why this Cannon-capture move was not made by Lu Qin. In
actual play, R2-5xC was indeed played, but as Move 26 -- to salvage a
mate-in-one threat. Any comments would be appreciated.
