I would double it!
Well, I don't know how much that would be, so hedge...
I would gladly support any organization that actually represented what
furthers us in chess - I already do so elsewhere. Real representation is the
greatest single aspect of my correspondence with top national players - and
it is their elective agenda, not mine.
Why don't you repost your active agenda proposal on this issue Mr. Parr?
This is why it is important, IMO:
In terms of the non-chess playing community - which includes chess parents
and future chess parents - there is actually a big negative factor in
proposing drug testing for chess, which is along the lines of 'no smoke
without fire'. If there is no problem, why is it necessary to have a
'medical' commission, fines and banning?
To a general public declaring,
"Chess is a drug-free, creative and socially interactive past-time for
your child, no matter what colour, sex, religion - and besides, helps with
academic studies like math,"
is the message we neglect to make. And these days, this sort of declaration
would be a very novel one - what other activity could claim it?
And certainly USA needs all the above!
Cordially, Phil Innes
