Force Feedback 2 Joystick?

| I admit I've been out of the loop for a while, but I had no idea things had
changed this much! It looks as if Microsoft is no longer making the Force
Feedback Joystick? Can't even buy a Force Feedback 2 Joystick on the net,
except for on eBay, which I'm not crazy about.
What happened? At least - what are my options in terms of a USB Force
Feedback joystick?
I have an original Force Feedback joystick, but when I connected it to a USB
via an adapter (it was originally a standard game port device) it couldn't
be calibrated and didn't work in Flight Sim X.
Any advice on how to either get my current Force Feedback joystick to work
with USB, or what reasonable alternatives I have with other devices?
Thanks!
Mark

ALL force feedback devices, from any source, need TWO way communication
with the computer. The joystick functions of a game port don't offer TWO
way communication. Game port force feedback controls are using the game
port's Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) Bi-directional
communication functions. Unfortunately many converters intended to
attach game port game controls to USB ports only serve the joystick
functions, completely ignoring the controller's attempts at using the
MIDI interface.
For ANY game port force feedback controller you NEED the adapter that
came with the controller OR an internal add on card with full game port
function (joystick AND MIDI), typically found on sound cards designed
for desktop computers. The sound facilities built into computer
motherboards don't usually include game ports anymore.
Most current force feedback controllers have built in USB capability.
