| Anybody knows how to add tooltips to the gauges in the panel? I recently
downloaded an Antonov AN-24-RV from the net and I must say it flies
beautifully, so far I had not been able to successfully take-off and land
such a big plane (or I must be getting better) but with this beauty I
departed from Kathmandu Intl. and landed it in the same place!. I missed the
first approach though because it is a challenging airport having to descend
from the mountain side of the runway, a reverse thrust came in handy after
landing.
Problems I found with it though:
- All instruments are in Russian! none of the gauges have tooltips which
were they in English would be easier to navigate
- Many instruments such as the airspeed indicator, the attitude indicator
and the compass seem to be out of order because they do not respond during
the flight making navigation by instrument almost impossible.
- Once I taxied into the gate I tried to turn off the two engines, CTRL+E
did nothing, E0/E1/E2 followed by Ctrl+E did nothing either so I had to
leave them on.
Is this a model error or am I missing something? I have used these
combinations on the bi-motor beechcraft without problem but not on this one.
Thanks in advance,
Emilio

Have you downloaded the navigation tutorial at
http://www.hrasko.com/gabor/srsz/AN24_RNAV_13102004.zip ?
That tutorial is intended for the Dimitri Samborski version of the
Antonov An-24RV aircraft available in the http://www.avsim.com/ file
library in the Flight Simulator 2004 Original Aircraft category.
Unfortunately, by the time you figured out which tool tip to apply to
which instrument you probably wouldn't need them any more. For panel and
gage editing and programming you might want to download the Software
Development Kit at
http://www.microsoft.com/games/flig...r/downloads.asp
Is it possible your master electrical power is turned off? On the Option
menu check the control assignments for "Master battery/alternator
switches on/off". There might be an "Avionics master switch on/off" on
one of the panels, but then you run into the marking language problem
again. There doesn't seem to be a default keyboard assignment for the
avionics master switch, but you have the option of adding one OR turning
that switch on in another aircraft before changing to the AN-24.
Have you tried the mixture controls for cutting the engines? The Barron
has reciprocating engines that will quit when the spark plugs are no
longer getting high voltage pulses of electricity. The AN-24 has
turboprop engines that will continue to operate without ANY electrical
power as long as fuel is pumped into them. To shut down a jet or
turboprop you have to cut the fuel flow. Check the control assignments
for "Mixture idle cutoff" or "Mixture lean quickly" and try one of those
(you may have to hold "Mixture lean quickly" for a few seconds).

| Thanks a million Robert, it is a very detailed document (more than 40 pages)
but definitely an excellent work.
As for the rest the avsim.ru site is totally in Russian and the for the
download area (latest version) one needs to be registered (again the russian
thing). I think that the version I got from avsim.com (i think it was there)
is perhaps not the latest and needs a Virtual Avionics Technician (a new
profession!) that could fix the broken gauge.

Emilio

Emilio -
You must have missed my response the last time you asked about shutting down
engines. CTRL - SHIFT - F1 is the default key combination in FS2004 to "Set
Mixture to Idle Cutoff" thereby shutting off the fuel to the engines.
Whether Jet, Prop or Turbine - if they don't get fuel - they don't run.
The only time where this may not work is if the panel designer modifies the
FS defaults. Doesn't happen often tho'

| Hi Vic,
Thanks, it does indeed do the trick. I am however facing some bugs that I
have no clue as to whether they are FS2004 or Windows. But the only one
regarding this thread is:
- Installed the AN-24-RV Antonov from SamDim
- Landed and shut down the engines. FS says "Tip: ctrl+e to turn on the
engines" and you hear no engine sound. But as soon as you switch the view to
SPOT (outside) the propellers are running full speed and the engine sound
too. Could it be FS failing to notify the "model" that the engines are not
running?

| Hi Emilio -
IIRC, the sounds and their initial volume are part of the CFG files within
the a/c model. Windows would have no effect at all on individual sounds -
either they would all be on or all off. FS9 does have individual volume
control settings though which you can adjust to your liking. They're in the
settings/sound menu.
