Author FS 2004 will not start
George Sherwood

I just finished the install of FS 2004 and it will not run at all. When I
start the program I get the opening screen and then it returns to my desktop
with no error displayed at all. Running dxdiag.exe shows all directX
drivers are functioning.

How can I at least find out what is wrong?

I did notice the following three errors in the event log everytime I try to
start FS 2004. They mean nothing to me at all.

I fixed this by uninstalling IE7 Beta 2 and goin back to IE 6. It must
have been interfering with the initial screen coming up in FS 2004. I wrote
up a report against IE7.

I don't know what they mean either, George, but the reference to a
remote computer is anomalous and ominous. This newsgroup does not
connect directly to Microsoft, by the way, and the chances someone from
that company might see your message are quite low.

Since you're savvy enough to find the event log, I assume you've
installed FS 2004 with full administrative privileges, right? And, when
you installed WinXP, the name you gave your computer was XPS, right?
(Right click on My Computer, choose Properties and verify the full
computer name shown there.) If not, uninstall and reinstall with full
administrative privileges and see if that clears up your issue.

When you correlate the reference to a remote computer along with the
missing identification of who is the User in each of these error
messages, it really suggests that your installation is not being
perceived as one made by you on your own computer. That's why I am led
to believe this may be solved by being certain you are installing in
your User Account, at a minimum, and in your full administrative
privileges User Account at best. If that doesn't clear things up, your
best bet may be to call directly to Microsoft Product Support. Hope that
helps.

Glad to hear it. I knew you were a savvy user. I've also heard a few
rumblings about IE7 Betas. Happy to hear it wasn't as complicated as I
thought it might be.
