FS2004 Monitor signal out of range
|

| Hi All,
Hope someone can help. I have been having no problems with FS2004. The other
day I decided to change my video settings in the game (NOT on my PC) After
doing this the screen went black, and now I get a message "out of range"
everytime I start the game. I can not get into the game to change my settings
back.
How can I change back to my old settings.
Thanks

You shouldn't have been able to choose a resolution/rate too high for
your monitor, first make sure that your monitor and video card drivers
are correctly installed and up to date.
For FS simply run it via its "Reset Defaults" shortcut, you will have
to re-enter your settings afterwards.

| Katy,
If you uncheck "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" then you can
select resolutions/refresh rates beyond the capabilities of the monitor.
Also, if they don't install the correct monitor driver (i.e. they just use
Plug & Play) it could allow the selection of resolutions beyond the monitors
capability.
Yes, "Reset Defaults" is the way to go -- or delete the fs9.cfg.

May be the "Vertical Refresh Rate" that is out of range for the new
resolution.
Try setting a lower vertical refresh rate for that resolution in your
advanced display properties. Procedures vary, as that portion of display
properties is often custom programed by the video accelerator
manufacturer. The display properties are ussually accessable by right
clicking on the Windows desktop and selecting "Properties". You will
probably need to click the "Settings" tab.
You may be able to return to windowed mode in Flight Simulator by
holding the ALT key while pressing the ENTER key.

| Thanks for info but nothing helped. My video card is up to date etc. Not my
card as the game was OK before.
Were do I find the "Reset Defaults" shortcut as mentioned. I looked in the
FS2004 file and must have clicked on everu shortcut, nothing happening. :-(
I also deleted the fs9.cfg and then the game does not start at all. So I
replaced it again.
My last option is to uninstall the game and reinstall.
Any more ideas
Thanks

In the start menu, like all shortcuts (All programs/Microsoft
games/FS2004/Troubleshooting), don't you have an entry?
