I would like to know which is the best ,that is ,the most realistic
FREEWARE aircraft for flying aerobatics (apart from the deafult Extra).

Thanks in advance.

Try the Long Island Classics model of the Christen Eagle II. Go to AVSIM and
get file liceagii.zip. It is very good. There is also a patch file name
liceagp1.zip. :0))

The Airhead Decathlon is well regarded, too. See
http://airhead.hfdd.com. The movie page has one video of the FS model
in action, and then four more of the real thing.

You may also want to try the Sukhoi 26 and 31. The visual models
available for FS2004 are not top of their league and certainly not as
good as the Christen Eagle II but the flight models are not bad and in
RL, the Sukhoi are outstanding.

The problem with aerobatics in the sim is the available flight dynamics
engine. Some developers like RealAir have made inroads into the reality
factors, but unless you are willing to get into the payware venue, I'm
afraid you will be limited to simple loops and rolls, and even the rolls are
limited as to the actual RL flight dynamics. The default Extra demonstrates
the neutral stability found in any top aerobatic airplane as well as any
I've seen aside from the Real Air programming.
If you are willing to step up a peg and invest in an add on that approaches
the real life flight dynamics found in aerobatics, I strongly suggest the
Real Air Decathlon which will give you some accurate spin dynamics, stall
dynamics, and when flown with a working set of rudder pedals, will also
allow you accurate slip and slow roll dynamics which will give you correct
Immalman dynamics and Cuban dynamics as well.
In case you haven't guessed yet from what I've been writing, it's all about
the flight "dynamics" :-)

Thanks for the advice.
I hve tried now the Christen Eagle and also the Airhead Superdecathlon.
I like both very much.
The Christen Eagle is more forgiving, as it has a bit more power. I
have been able to do (some sort of) spins only with the help of the
ailerons but the other figures are no problem and the Vc gauges are
very smooth.
With the Airhead Superdecathlon it is a different thing: you have to
manage the energy and watch constantly your aispeed. In the beginning I
had several crashs. It looses a bit too much altitude in stalls , I
think. Spins are not possible, I asked the question on their forum. But
with this plane I manage to do acceptable hammerheads. Despite those
limitations, the more I fly it ,the more I like it.
Those two planes make a good change from the powerful Extra 300S.

Dudley, I have read many of your comments and flying-tips concerning
Aerobatics and I have also your display guide for the Airmacchi 339. I
will try that later. Already downloaded a freeware 339.
I know that for absolute realism you need pedals and a separate
throttle. But for the moment I have only a twist grip joystick on my
older computer. So I am only looking for something less then absolute
realism.

Happy landings.

Sounds like you are very interested in acro. Things are getting better every
day whith the flight dynamics for the simulator.
Wishing you the best of luck, and enjoy!

There's a discussion about SPIN dynamics in the Air Decode forum, dated
2003.

Jerry (CFS guru), Ron (FD guru) and Dr. Ian amongst the posts.

Here's another discussion:

A quote from Ian:

"We, believing in conspiracy theory, deduced the 10 times MoI would
mask out lots of problems in the defective default a/c Bill sends us.
With a proper model the flight engine is quite capable of doing a good
fidelity simulation, unless you are thinking of spins etc. -Ian"

And quote from Jerry:

"The problem with good fidelity spins in FS2002 is poor fidelity flight
models. Download and view this 30 second video clip taken of the 1%
Corsair flight model in FS2002."

http://users.rcn.com/gwbeckwith/fs2k_spin.zip

"The download link for the flight model is:"

http://www.mudpond.us/mp_f4u_1a.zip "

Did ya' catch what Ian says! { chuckle }
