| Anytime Micorsoft talks about the incoming FSX, they always claim that with
Vista, FSX works better.
I'm not quite sure how a OS can actually affects the performance of another
program: to me, the OS is either compatible with a given program or not,
i.e. FS9 will never run on Win95 but this is not a good reason to say that
on WinXP, FS9 "runs better" than with Win95.
I may be wrong by thinking that Microsoft would like to sell a new Vista
together with a new FSX copy and it might be true that FSX works better on
Vista. But do you think that this is true and/or we will be able to see any
actual difference on performance between FSX running on XP or Vista?

| for one, ive heard that when a 3d game loads, ALL of windows components are
unloaded...... kinda like booting with a boot disk in the olddays, so only
the game was running....?

| Im sure i read somewhere that the new version of direct x will be vista only
(this was a while ago may have changed now). So in that case having vista
will allow fs x to use the new direct x so will therefore look better (in
theory). Can anyone confirm if directx 10 is vista only?

Vista is designed to have a new graphics driver model. This means that
the drivers will have to be rewritten. There is planned to be a new
version of DirectX9 with a new Direct3D that will take advantage of
of the new driver model. Among other things, the new driver is
supposed to make it easier to use/load multiple GPUs such as in an
SLi or Crossfire environment.
Vista (at least some version -- I hear there will be 6 different
variants) is also going to implement something called "game explorer".
I assume all your saved flights and weather will be saved in the
GE for example. I also assume there might be some sort of improved
on-line capability in FSX, and the game explorer will help mange that.
It sounds like at least other than the most basic Vista version will
have the 3d desktop aka Aero. That I assume will impact how windowed-
mode FSX runs, and maybe addons that open their own windows.
Vista will also change process permissions so that it wil be more
practical to run in user mode instead of administrator. This might
not have any direct impact on running FSX.
Until the next Vista beta is released, it is difficult to tell
how things are going.
