When FS9 rolls over and plays dead, there is a screen that prompts if you
want to send a report and restart the sim. Where does it go, and at what
point do all of these messages fill up their in box and start falling on
the floor? Do they use these to create patches or (gasping for air) a new
FS version (à la FSX)?
My experimenting with over clocking this, over clocking that has cause
daily system vomits with their associated downloads to uncle Bill !
Oh and, who ever won the Lincoln Aviator that we were entitled to win when
we first registered FS9 in 2004?

I have been having the same problem and it's making me want to
SCREAM!!!!! It mostly happens when either at an airport or approaching
one. I can be completing a three hour trip, turning on to short final
and my screen goes black, the sound still on and then I get an error
message. It happened to me today.
I downloaded updated video drivers, have been tweaking the settings
until I have hardly any tweaks left to do, and I'm still getting the
'black death' crashes. I posted the problem about a week ago here and
the best wisdom I could get was to vacuum out my computer. So I did.
It didn't help, although Martha Stewart would love it in there.
If you get an answer to this dilemma, Sky, and it works, I'll owe you a
nice, cold Molson Canadian.....maybe even a couple because this CTD
problem has me stumped.

This guy (the web site author) needs to get a life.
Bill Gates already has a nice one. He earns four million dollars each
and every day. I would be a 'devil of a guy' if I had that kind of
cash.
Instead of playing with numbers to get a triple six, let the web site
guy solve our CTD problem.
At least that would be useful.

When that window pops up I just slide it down into the corner where just
a tiny portion of the warning visible and go on happily flying. I can't
see anything wrong.

boB.......I can't go on flying. When the thing crashes, the screen
goes black. I get the error message and after I click the 'Don't Send'
button (because it doesn't send anyway), I'm looking at my desktop.
The program is completely gone!
I've been thinking (which is always a dangerous situation for me).
I've been trying to place a timeline on these crashes and they MAY be
related to either Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska OR AISmooth...not sure
which, but I'm leaning to AISmooth. However, Evensky has UT
Canada.....so I might lean back to that.
Geez, all this leaning is making me dizzy!

The general rule of computer diagnostics is:
Disconnect everything and get the computer back to it's simplest state to
see if that stops the problem. Then add stuff back until it breaks again.
In this case if you suspect scenery software, uncheck all of your add on
scenery and see if it stops the problem.

It's not going to fix your error, but if you want to get rid of the
irritating 'Send / Don't Send' message, you can turn off 'Error Reporting'
in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Error Reporting, - saves another decision
:-)

I have been having this problem even before all of the recent purchases.
They were all done within a couple of weeks of eachother, so I KNOW it is
not related to software.
In my upgrade from W2K to XP, there were no crashes after the fresh XP
install and it only started occuring as I started to tweek my 'puter.
If it helps, I get better, trouble free flying when I start the sim with
FsStart, closing my network connection and running in 800X600, 16bit. I
am not sure if any of this helps be it collectively or individually, all
I know is that there are fewer crashes.
My next 'puter will be dedicated for power stuff such as Flash, Adobe
Premiere and FSX, that's it, that's all. I'll use my current desktop for
everything else, and hopefully, I'll have much more happy flying. That'll
be when the next wave of Microsoft O/S and FSX hit the shelves though...
Speaking of Molson Canadian. They say that there are no preservatives in
the export version available here in the states, but there is something
different as it tastes like brake fluid. That being said, please don't
tease me with promises of my fav beer k? ;o)

| I found out that it may not be FS9 add-ons but something completely
different, like remains in the"Program Files"and / or your registry after
deleting software. So, during my search for anything that could have caused
my computer to literally jam I got rid of everything referring to my old
IntelliPoint software that I discovered, including the registry. Yesterday I
had my first successful two hour flight again since a long time. So I really
hope it is solved now. I just guess that a rigorous manual(!!) clean up may
still be the best solution for problems like this. Starting with the last
software you installed or changed.

Very cool. I won't tease you with promises of anything.
Would just like to know, though, when and how you've tasted brake
fluid. : )

In the case of FS9 crashing at the end of a long flight, I experience the
same problem. I am convinced it is a memory leak problem. I have a little
"memory available" window on my taskbar and watch the memory reduce from 800
megs down to 19, when the stuttering begins, and finally down to zero when
I get the "crash" and "send / don't send" request.
As I watched the memory disappear, I closed all my background apps, which
slowed the loss for a bit, but the loss continued none the less.
However, having seen the problem occur, I have no idea as to the solution.

Hi Neighbour : ) Where did you get 'the little window' thingie?
Sounds interesting.
My flights deteriorate after about three hours in to a myriad of
stutters, so much so, it is difficult to use the program. I think I'm
going to divide them into smaller flights and reboot the computer after
each one. It's a bummer, but I can't see any other solution at this
time.

| I guess I have another problem then. FS9 works really perfect with excellent
frame rate (25). But then it just stops! Nothing else can be done. All is
jammed and the only thing left to do is hit the restart button. I thought I
had the cause, but nope, it still jams :-(

| I had the CTD problem on short approach at Chattanooga, last week.
What a pisser!
There was a time that I had it on every FS-planned flight from KPAE to
KMWH, just after crossing the Columbia River. While tinkering, I kept
FSGenesis installed at all times, but I had to turn off some of my
favorite freeware scenery to stop the problem. It DID stop the
problem, however.
So, aside from the lurking suspicion that some online jackass can
monitor our flights and screw with them, I have to hold with Dallas'
suggestion about how to find the source.

Tell ya the truth, I'm of the impression that FSSmooth (a very beloved
piece of software), is at fault in my case. : (
I've been flying without it and haven't had a CTD for a while. Not
sure what to do now.
