Good day all,

having read "Coordinated turns and the little ball" in
rec.aviation.piloting (yes, I like rabbits, especially
diseased ones), a question that kept me busy for some
time in the past comes back to my mind.

It is stated there, that in some airplanes steep turns
require opposite ailerons to prevent overbanking.

As Flight1 C172R owners may know, this model is delivered
with two *.air files, one for spinnable, more 'nervous'
aerodynamics, the other for a more stable behaviour.

Until now I have been using the spinnable version, because
I somehow felt that this might be the more realistic one.
This airfile requires opposite aileron for everything
exeeding a shallow turn.Additionally, if I let go of the
controls once the turn is established, the ball leaves its
cage to the inside of the turn by half its diameter or more.

When flying shallow turns and I let go of the controls, the
airplane soon levels its wings, so that I have to reenter
the turn or keep control pressure applied.

The 'stable' airfile does not exhibit this behaviour, at
least it flies nice medium banked turns without the continued
use of control pressure, and the wing levelling tendency is
much less pronounced.

Now I again am a bit confused: which in the opinion of more
knowledgeable people is the more realistic airfile, or, which
of the files should be used for 'normal' operation?

Which file do other C172R owners use?

:-) Andreas

Just being a pure simmer myself, I would like to recommend the
RealAir C172 freeware version. A very nice and tailored package you
can find here: http://www.flusi.info/ (its a very well done site but
all in German). The 1-mot GA hangar is accessible here:
http://www.flusi.info/hangar/index_GA-1mot.html but you have to
scroll down about half the way or just make a search for "Cessna 172
SP". If you like a direct download link - here it is:
