| I have purchased flight simulator 2004. The virtual cockpit view has 360
continuous pan capabilities. The cockpit view does not. In the 2002
addition, there was a way to correct this by changing the settings. Is it
possible with 2004?
Thanks for any help.

| The 2D Cockpit view is just that, a '2D' display made up from bitmap images
of various polar views which are viewed by use off the numerical keypad or
hatswitch on joystick. Dont think you can change it to a '3D' one if thats
what you mean. Virtual cockpit I believe is a 3D model of flight deck or
cabin with bitmap textures applied to each element and gauges/switches for
operational use.

It actually pans well if you just use the mini-instrument panel. It
does pan the views outside the cockpit leaving the panel directly in
front of you. But why would a person want to do what the virtual
cockpit does well? Maybe on a low vis instrument approach and you want
to pan but want the instruments to remain directly in your view.

Hi, I'm back.
I am still figuring out how to use newsgroups. I think I sent the note
below to one member. I hope this gets it posted to the group.
I am interested in panning outside the aircraft unobstructed or minimally
obstructed by flight instruments. My problem now is that I cannot find the
fs9.cfg file. I have searched my hardrive and cannot find the file. I did
locate a reference to it in the readme Word document. It read as follows:
The fs9.cfg file is located in:
o Windows 2000 and Windows XP: C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9.
No such path exists. FS9 is stored in program files/microsoft games. There
is a config folder that contains a config text file but it seems to be
dealing with fonts.
I'm running XP 2002. Does that make a difference?

| Roger,
Never heard of XP 2002. If you go into My Computer and view the contents of
C:\ do you not see 'Documents and Settings' folder?
If not you could select Tools on the pull down list then Options. Select
the View tab the select 'Show hidden files and folders' also make sure
'Display the contents of system folders' is ticked and 'Hide protected
operating system files' is unticked. You should now be able to find fs9.cfg
in the location described below. To do what you wish with the view you
could always use the VC and move your view position forward so as your
'outside' the cabin - although you will still see the cabin model when
looking backwards. There are key assignments to do this think its CTR and
ENTER or CTR and DEL for forward/back. If you get into you cfg file and
change the setting "pan_in_cockpit_mode=1" you could always turn off the
panel by pressing W in Cockpit View (2D).

Working from memory...
[CTRL]+W reduces the flight instruments to s
small strip of essentials at the bottom of
the screen.
[CTRL]+W Again, elminates all instruments
One more time and it reverts back to standard
instrument view.
Pick either of the first two options and
pan via the normal method (SHIFT+ num pad keys).

I think it's just the W key when the 2D panel is selected.
