| Don,
How did the guitar gig go last Sunday? I didn't realise we had another Duane
Eddy or Chet Atkins in our midst! ;0))
Back on topic, have you managed to fly that Trident yet?

| sorry Iain I am still getting to that Trident and will report back as
promised. I have decided to fix or improve one aircraft at a time rather
than being disatisfied with them all
The first aircraft is my favourite(freeware) over all the payware and its a
737 but the bldy yaw dampner light is always on. Today may se me back in
retirement to allow me some spare time. Hows your son going in the
broadcasting world??

| I really have a soft spot for my old Fender Twin. I was usually a Gibson
man myself...eg330...Les Paul Deluxe (Cherry Sunburst and my all-time
favorite, then in my later days, an RD Custom. Even played bass a bit (on
and SG) Never could afford a Marshal amp like I wanted, usually had to
settle for a Peavey. Oh well, I had a lotta fun and made a living for a
while.

| Hi Mr Steve from Mr Don also to Bryan:
I used to own a Fender Twin with a Strat to match.. great sound then moved
on to the humbucking Gibson Les Paul and the Twin was too much of a growl so
used a Jazz Chorus 120..that's all got too heavy to carry for this old bgger
so came across this 96 Lonestar Strat with a mixture of pickups Pearly gate
and Seymour Duncan and a lite weight Vox Valvetronic amp. Getting used to
it. I no longer do the cabaret circuit.. just fun stuff now.
Iain I will try that Trident again soonest and let you know. I have several
in the hangar now awaiting attention and might have to make a topic of the
individual probs.
eg on a airbus cant read the incomplete AP digits on a 2D cockpit but they
appear clear on the VC (eg altitude 7700 looks more like 11) ) !! ???

oh oh.. valve = tube in UK / AU
confused.. because a valve is associated with pipes and plumbing,
however there could be a valve in tubing.. as in thin pipes.. aay?

What is so odd about vacuum tubes? I hang out at the Guitar Center and
although I am not up on electric, (I've been playing acoustic for 38 years)
I did notice that the big expensive pro stuff still uses vacuum tubes. I'm
pretty sure I'm right about this... ?

| Gidday Dallas
They have an individual sound transistors can't match I think a valve (tube)
can produce a full wave but transistor needs a mate or two alongside to
complete it (Darlington pair??) anyway the slight break between the
transistors causes a little harshness or through the nose sound that we all
got used to when listening to FM. Great clarity but a little clinical.
Now I'm probably way incorrect but that's the way I always thought it
worked in laymans terms

Wow... when did you become an electrical engineer? :-)
I guess you are saying the new amps all use transistors? I frequently stop
in the store to buy stings and play the old legacy Martins in the "expensive
guitar room" in the back. One day on my way out, I was confronted with an
amp in my way that was my height and I looked in the back and was shocked to
see rows of vacuum tubes.

Chuckle...
Don is right.. tube amps have a uniquely warm and rich sound that
transistor amps (although efficient and low distortion) simply cannot
match.. but who wants Lo distortion?? speaking of distortion modes!
a `full wave' circuit is known as Class-A.. a `push-pull' amp is known
as Class-B.. a circuit that pumps as it pushing a swing is Class-C..
either devise could most likely be designed in A, B or C config.
I think Marshall of the UK had the biggest and badest amps. Putting it
simply.. to get REAL '60s and '70s electric rock sound.. go with tube
power amps / heads.
Don.. got any demo mp3's?

I usually don't listen to that type music but it seems you can feel the
different instruments playing together but separate if you want to
isolate just one.
