I just installed Squawk Box 3.0 and tried a few ATC flights on VATSIM. It
is easy to install and easy to use.
You don't need Roger Wilco or Teamspeak for voice with the controllers for
FS2004

Hi Folks,

Downloaded it, but wanted to ask a question before installing it etc.

Shouldn't I "undo" the installation of all the stuff I needed to install
for the prior release?

This would include SBRelay, squawkbox, and AVC.

If so, do I need anything from the previous installs (besides FS9 of
course).

TIA
Steve

Not necessary to do that . Install SB3 and it will work fine. Be very
careful and install it in the default \programfiles\sb folder. A lot of
people installed in their root directory like D:\ or F:\. By using the root
the uninstaller wipes out everything in the root directory and caused major
problems. The SB3 author Joel is addressing this and will issue a patch. So
make sure if you use your D drive make a folder structure to install it in
like D:\programfiles\sb...

Glad its working for you. I have wasted about 4 hours over the past two
days( and no telling how many with the older version) trying to connect.
"invalid CID/PASSWORD" is the only thing I get on the squawk box window.
I can enter the vatsim website with my login and password and it shows me I
am logged in as Danny..... and all is good. That is at the Vatsim.net site.
Do I have a different login for squawk box to work?

Use your vatsim CID and password with SB3.

Thanks for the reply, Bill. When I Click "start" on the SB window. I fill in
the info there including the 'User ID' it requests and the password I use to
access "Pilot Resources" on the website.
What, pray tell, is a CID? Vatsim assigned me a "User ID" but I have no
recall of any other ID. I have searched Vatsim site and find nothing about
a CID. BTW, I am running FS2004 and Squawkbox on same machine, if that
information is of any importance.

Danny,

Its the User ID and password you got when you signed up for VATSIM. Its not
the one from the pilots resources. If you still have problems write me
wfcr50(at)bellsouth.net and I will try and help you.

Thanks
Bill

Hi,

Great, got it installed, but everytime I try to run it I get an error about
not being able to create a multiplayer session etc.

I've looked at the help docs about testing directx, and indeed it seems that
I need o open up something on my firewall, but the ports that are required
aren't specified. I'm using the same network configuration that I used for
the previous verion of squawkbox...

Any ideas of what to do with my firewall? I shouldn't have to open up a
DMZ for this. Or is it an XP issue?

I dont think its a firewall problem. If you are using a router disable uPnP.
I had the same problem.

I had the exact same problem when I tried to log onto SB3. I knew what the
CID was (user ID) but I kept putting the wrong password in. I forgot that
the VATSIM password is generated by them and was trying to use the password
I use for the forums etc, until that fact dawned on me! A trip back to my
original "welcome" email from VATSIM sorted me out. The reason I'd forgotten
it is that I've set things to automatically log-in to the VATSIM site, so I
never need to physically enter the PWD these days.

This thread starter as praise for the new SB3 and I got it somewhat off
topic . . . and for that I apologize.
Thanks to Bill and Tim for their input. I searched my e-mail archive but
found no other password expect the "pilot resource". I requested and
received a password that finally worked. I logged on and listened to Atlanta
ACT. Many thanks, again, to all who offered a suggestion. Maybe when they
issue an update on the help file they will explain that CID and USER ID is
the same and further explain which password is expected. I can't believe
Tim and I are the only one who has experienced this problem. Congrats to
the SB3 team for smoothing it out. I never could get everything working
before. Couldn't even get up to the login screen.

Hi Again,

That indeed did it. Got on first try with it disabled. After a couple of
minutes I got an XP blue screen then a reboot. I'll dig through the
squawkbox forums and see if anything's up.
