Author Expert help needed with FS2002 fault

My Fs2002 has developed an anomaly a week or so ago.

After flying for about 15-20 minutes, the magnetic navigation system
suddenly varies by -45 degrees, i.e., when the aircraft is flying at
360 degrees to a VOR, the HSI/VOR1 and VOR2 indicate that the VOR is
at 315 degrees. If I am flying with autopilot on, and HDG selected,
the aircraft will turn left 45 degrees. This persists until I shut the
program down.

I have checked FS2002.cfg and it appears normal, tried deleting
FS2002.cfg and restarting, tried a re-install, tried default and third
party aircraft, tried different world locations, such as Australia and
USA, all to no avail. It seems strange that the fault only occurs
after flying for a while, not on initial startup.

I have been using FS2002 since it was released and this problem has
only arisen now. Any suggestions?

taking a chance at looking bad here.. seem to remember a problem
like that about two years ago. See that you have at least all of the
default BGL files below:

Directory of F:\FS2002\SCENERY

04/17/2001 08:21p 8,048,751 dem4km.bgl
09/19/2001 05:43p 366,394 dynlib.bgl
09/11/2001 03:37p 85,582 lclookup.bgl
04/17/2001 08:21p 130,468 magdec.bgl
07/31/2001 04:51p 22,821 regions.bgl
04/17/2001 08:21p 1,059,802 seasons.bgl
04/17/2001 09:21p 2,931 TIMEZONE.BGL
04/17/2001 08:21p 2,931 TIMEZONE_org.BGL
04/25/2001 12:46p 32,916 Trees_0.bgl
04/17/2001 08:21p 651 world.vis
09/06/2001 12:53p 18,718,318 worldlc.bgl
08/24/2001 05:52p 7,615,632 worldwc.bgl

seem to recall the `magdec' file got moved due to shifting BGL's in
and out of folder. That was a reason to do MAJOR re-arrange and
organization of the scenery.

Thanks for the advice, Gregory, I have all those except
TIMEZONE_org.BGL - is that one an earlier version of TIMEZONE.BGL?

The odd thing is that I managed an error-free flight yesterday, so
hopefully the program has got its head back together. I will try
another flight when time permits.

As a followup to the above, yesterday I flew the same flight as the
one in which the problem previously occurred and . . . . no more
problem!

This leads me to believe that it was an attempt by aliens from the
region of Alpha Centauri to invade my PC and thus take over the world.
Maybe I need to make a helmet out of aluminium foil to stop their
telepathic probes into my brain as well :-)

Martin.. it's common to add a "_org" on the filename to signify
that it's the "original" file.. but it should have been moved out of
there. You'll notice the size and dates. Sometimes an hour is lost
or gained depending on `daylight savings time'. The redundant file
was deleted yesterday.

If you were to remove the `magdec' file as a test.. you'd see the
effects.. but who has time for that. Ok.. so I don't put any more junk
in that stock SCENERY folder.. instead the addin structure is:

\ SCENE
\ SCENE - Land Class
\ SCENE - Mesh

\ SCENEDB <<< stock folder
