I'm using FS2004 and the Overspeed message and annoying sound almost always
comes on sooner or later. I cannot shut it off. My wife is complaining. Can
someone tell me how to shut the damn thing off?

Please.

Go to realism settings and uncheck the "aircraft stress causes damage".
I think that'll solve your problem.

a) Fly within the speed limit of the type...check the red bar on the IAS
gauge
b) Increase the max speed in the aircraft.cfg file
c) Hit the Q button
d) Get ear muffs
e) Send the wife out for pizza

Of course the last two in jest LOL :-)

Nope that won't fix it.

Here is something I've never tried that might:

Go to the offending aircraft's folder and find the file aircraft.cfg. (back
it up before working on it)

Open it in a text editor and find the line max_indicated_speed =

Change the value that's in there to something much higher (double).

Save it and go flying.

I'm guessing that will work?

Do what many of us do, use earphones at all times with the PC, saves an
awful lot of trouble :-(

Two words: SLOW DOWN. Read the aircraft's specifications and don't
exceed the maximum speeds for a given mode of flight (i.e.
gear/flaps/spoilers up/down).

The Learjet is particularly easy to overspeed, but it's better than it
was in FS2002 as I recall.

Er, don't overspeed? Seriously!

Don't take this wrong but it sounds like you need to learn to fly the plane within it's limits. Don't overspeed!

BTW it would help if you told us which AC so we could see if this is a bug with the plane or in fact you are actually
exceeding published limits.
