flight sim 2004..using create a flight i always find myself at the head of
the runway, despite having options from atc to taxi and hold before entering
runway...how can i start my journey parked up somewhere that would require
me to taxi as instructed by atc.it would be far more realistic. as a
beginner i am only flying the cessna 172. thx for any help.

Well, if you use the "create flight" option you will certainly also use the
"select airport" option. Maybe you have overlooked that when selecting an
airport you can also select (at least on most airports) WHERE you want your
A/C positioned. it's the lowest selector field on the left, I don't know how
it is called in English as I use the German version but something like
"Runway/startposition" may be adequate.

On the "select location" screen (I think - the one where you choose the
airport you're starting from, anyway), see the box near the bottom
labelled "active runway". Click there and scroll down and you'll get the
other runways listed, then any parking spots that are set up in the
airport scenery file. Some small airports won't have parking spots
defined. What you're after for the Cessna is one labelled "GA SMALL"
(i.e. General Aviation, small aircraft).

Hope this helps,

Roger

Mike,
You can also select your starting point by slewing your aircraft to any
point on the airport. To slew the aircraft just press the "Y" key, and move
your airplane with the controller. Then, when you are in the spot that you
want to be at, press "Y" again to take the airplane out of slew mode. Now
set up your aircraft with all the controls, seat height, switches, and
everything else set to what you want it to be. You can also turn off the
engine(s) and electrical if you want a "cold and dark" cockpit to start off
with. Then set your weather, date, and time of day. Now save the flight.
When you save the flight, give this flight a descriptive name, like "Cessna
172 at KSEA General Aviation parking", or something similar. Then, when you
start FS2004, select this flight, and you will begin right where you want to
begin, with your aircraft set up exactly the way that you want it to be.

You can also set up everything and then make it your default flight and all
your settings should come automatically when you create a new flight...i.e.
my default flight is dark and cold...master off avionics off etc. You can
set it to always go for real world weather and local time too.
