| Gentlemen !
I recently re-installed FS9 mostly due to intermittent
freezing and crappy scenery installations that would hog my
FPS rate (Note to self: always backup files so you can
delete the crappy stuff and get things as they were!).
I've re-installed all of the stuff that I play with, but am
having gobs of problems getting my PAI stuff to work and
populate the skies.
1) The official read me says,
"KNOWN PROBLEM
It may happen when you run the PAI Installer that it appear
for a second in your task bar and disappear. This mean you
probaly suffer what we, at PAI, call the 'Soundblaster
bug'.
Some Creative Labs software interfer with the PAI Installer
and prevent it to run. You have two solution to go around
this problem :
1. Desactivate the usage of the Creative Labs program
CTHELPER.EXE
or
2. Run your system in safe mode while using the PAI
Installer."
I've tried both, but when I go to install the package it
says "error 20, cannot find file" which relates to not
finding the aircraft.cfg file in the PAI folder under
"Aircraft" in FS9. Looking in the appropriate PAI a/c,
there is no aircraft.CFG file in the directory.
See a screen capture of the message at
http://photobucket.com/albums/b286/evensky1/
I've tried different liveries and although the faulted file
name changes depending on the AI package I choose, the
error message remains the same.
Emailed PAI during error's display, but have more
confidence that the someone in the group will know
something before they even get a chance to read their e-
mail...
Tried both installer versions with no change.
Same prize can be awarded to the lucky candidate that can
solve this for me, a Tupperware butter dish.....

| thanks Steven but I just want to divert excuse me, since you have knowledge
of the Soundblaster Card. I have the 5 series and quite often the aircraft
sounds breaks into a terrible noise. Someimes I hit Q twice to stop it but
normally I have to reload the sim and bring the volume in quietly. (Hitting
'S' to an outside scene is the culprit manouvre.) I brought all volumes in
the .wav collection down sometime ago.

| Hi Don! I had exactly that problem some months ago with my Soundblaster Live
5.1 card. I traced it to Windows having insisted on installing Microsoft
drivers instead of the Creative ones. Check who the driver provider is
listed as for yours. Go to Control panel/system/hardware tab/device
manager - click on "Sound video and game controllers" and then click on
"Creative SB Live series WDM". Click on the driver tab and the provider
should be Creative. If it is Microsoft you need to force a change. Click on
"update driver" don't let it connect to Windows update and then choose for
Windows to search in a specified location i.e. your Creative CD. It should
then find and install the Creative drivers and I think you'll find it solves
your problem! HTH

Found an older, older backup of a previous installation I made on DVD.
Transferred ALL of the PAI Aircraft and contents of the Project AI
directory and re-installed with fresh ZIP's form their website. Worked
fine, thanks for all for your responses...I get to keep the Butter dish
though!!
