True, apart from the fact that the HP is bigger of course. And big IS
beautiful and chokes frame rate a little too.

Contrast: the ratio whitest white : darkest black (= color of the tft screen
when off). The better the contrast the more shades of gray and shades of
colors the monitor can distinguish.

Brightness: max amount of light the monitor can produce (per m^2)

Response time:
The time a pixel needs to change color. In CRT monitors this is not
important since the response time is very fast, so fast in fact that every
pixel needs a 100 Hz refresh simply to get a nice stable view when viewing
text.
The tft pixels glow much longer and do not need that refresh, but can glow
too long for viewing movies or playing games.
In flightsim there usually isn't much very fast movement, so responce time
isn't of the utmost importance. The only time I notice that the responce
time of my monitor is a little high, is when you get ATIS info
The specs of my monitor are:

1280 x 1024 Pixels
Contrast: 500:1
Brightness: 250 cd/mē
Response time: 12 ms

Since my monitor is more than a year old, and was a mid price 19" (LG) I
would check on the response time of some more tft monitors. The HP seems to
be a little long. Just to get an idea on what those numbers are with the
different monitors you can buy nowadays. I love 19" though! Makes a huge
difference and not only for simming.
