This slideshow records a trip made in several stages over several days:
Christchurch to Mt. Cook, Mt. Cook to Queenstown, Queenstown to Milford
Sound. Season: mid-August 2005 (winter). Navigation was VFR all the
way, mainly following rivers and lakes.
Addons: 76m mesh and landclass by Christian Stock (free), NZ topo
scenery by Christian Stock, Flight Environment, ActiveSky V (using
weather archived from mid-August 2005), RealAir Marchetti SF.260.

Thanks for that . The URL was missing from my view of the posting. Never
had that before, can't work out why.
Yep, really impressive pics. I really want to visit NZ in real life now.
All I can afford it the virtual tour though.

er DrP,where the snow is what we call mountains, where that green stuff is
we call fields.. but, wow, how high are those hills back in the Boone County
then??-- (we dont have moose but strangely enough there have been sightings
of a couple down there somewhere this year)
Nice pics David. Same old plane is getting around a bit. Which one is it??
You will need to get that Queenstown scenery down for sure.

Yeah, been there, done that, but until David posted the missing link, all I
saw was white... Looks like they got the rivers from the glaciers melting
spot on!! Sure bigger than our Boone Co. glaciers..... d:-> ))

I'll have to go back and try the Queenstown scenery -- it's an amazing
location, but the default airport is pretty drab. Plane is the
Marchetti SF.260, a birthday present from my parents. Bubble canopy
makes it perfect for VFR. Later in the day I switched to a seaplane
(Grumman Goose by Bill Lyons) to explore Fiordland:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/157488.../1201006/show/. First few
slides are of climbout from Milford Sound, following Cleddau River
south and west. Assorted fiords follow, ending with an overhead shot of
Dusky Sound; Goose is "parked" at the end of a tiny bay in Cook Island.

Hi David
Heres a grab of Queenstown behind the terminal. I also have Christian
Stock's NZ Season in the folder. Brings the snow level down.
I recall flying in a Grumman Widgeon or some name like that when I was a
kid. Used to land outside our beach house. Hit a sandbar on taking off once
and nosed in and stopped abruptly shaking the passengers somewhat.Old Capt.
Ladd was the pilot and was a legend for shouting out "a shower of spray and
we're away!!"

OK - Beautiful shots David!! Christian's mesh & scenery are a "must have"
now, this should keep me busy today. M/S default Milford Sound is
miserable!! If you want to see that little single strip busy as a bee hive,
be there right after the sight seeing boat that goes up the sound all the
way to open sea, then comes back along the opposite side, docks and all the
tourists that flew in are returning to their hotels in Christchurch,
Queenstown, etc.. We drove in and were staying at the one and only resort
(make your reservations about a year in advance if you go, they're usually
booked solid at least six months ahead) and I really didn't notice all the
aircraft arriving, as they were more spread out, naturally less noisey, but
about 15 minutes after the sight seeing cruise ended they were taking off en
masse! Well over a dozen within minutes - one would no more gain pattern
altitude, than another would be coming up into view behind the trees
blocking our view of the strip itself. With the sound resonating through
the different canyons (those granite cliffs along the waters edge are some
of the tallest in the world, reaching 5,000' if memory serves correct), it
was really a memorable sight. Reminded me of Alaskan mozzies, but that's
another story... d:-> ))
Cheers'n Beers.. [_])

| It's that freeware Trident we have talked about here and virtually every
button, lever, switch and pulley works on the VC but it's hard work. Needs
3.1 trim for takeoff then TRIM down after gear and before flaps up is the
secret or you are in trouble at 30 deg climb. You can make plenty of
mistakes on that AP too.. still my favourite for reality, appearance and
feel. There is a patch which I may not have installed (memory again) which
may change characteristics ( I think I ran into trouble after the patch and
uninstalled it)
